I get quite a few inquiries for portrait session from couples visiting NYC who generally want to shoot around NYC landmarks. What I loved about Jonathon's first email was what a straight shooter he was. "I'd like to get photos with the Empire State Building in the background," he said. I puzzled over this for a bit, as getting something as tall as the Empire State Building in the background of a photo is not an easy task.... that is, unless you are somehow very very high up.
On the day of the shoot, I found myself on the 70th floor of 30 Rockefeller Plaza (Top Of The Rock) at 8 am, feeling like I was standing on top of the world. I'm not one for touristy locations, but the 360 degree view was breathtaking, however you slice it. I'm so glad we did this, as it was the perfect backdrop for Jonathon and Grace's very sweet and romantic NYC engagement session, having come all the way from Australia. We had a wonderful time running up and down all 3 floors of the observation deck, taking in views from Lower Manhattan all the way to the top of Central Park, before heading to the ground floor where we took some classic shots around Midtown.
